Relationship Reflection

Relationship Reflection
I have many different relationships and they are all important and special in many ways.  Relationships make you feel like you belong, give you a since of security, and feels your heart with love.  Relationships can also challenge you to be the best you can possible be.  I have some good strong relationships within my family.
Some of the relationships that I currently possess are my relationship with my husband and three children.  I also have a strong relationship with my friend Dana, she is the one person I know that years can go by and I can call her and talk to her like we just talked yesterday.  I have relationships with my parents and siblings as well as my Grammy.  I also maintain relationships with my extended family and my in-laws.  I have many relationships in the neighborhood that I live in.  My relationships move well beyond my family and friends.  I have two dogs that I have a relationship with.  I have relationships with the colleagues that I work with as well as the children and their families that are in my care.
It is hard challenge work to maintain positive relationships; however it is well worth the challenge.  My relationships with my family and friends makes me feel loved and gives me a since of belonging and accomplishment.  These relationships help me when I get over whelmed with everything and help me get back on my feet.  Dana is the one true friend that everyone should be so lucky to find.  I met her in college and I was he mentor throughout our bachelor degrees.  She as passed me and has become my mentor, the one person that I know that does not judge me and well help me work through whatever it is that I might need to work through.  My colleagues, students, and their families are harder to maintain a relationship with.  I feel that I have a good working relationship with my colleagues; however none of them really know who I am.  I work hard to maintain a positive relationship with the children that I work with and their families.  My philosophy is that it is all about the children and what they need.  Sometimes that gets me in over my head. To have a good relationship you have to be able to see beyond yourself and work on meeting the needs of others.  Relationships cannot be one sided however and you both need to be able to give and take.
My work with children is impacted by relationships all the time.  Having relationships with children and their family’s gives you a better chance at meeting the needs of the children you work with.  Having a relationship with the children that I work with will help to build their self-esteem and facilitate relationship skills.

  1. Lucinda,

You are right in every aspect...relationships are connections to building bridges with families and their children. Early chilhood is a unique service in its own right because we cannot reach the goals and milestones without the parents support. We are the difference in a child's success because we not only educate the individual but the whole family. I have a best friend too since high school and she is like Dana a true friend who has been with me through it all the good, bad, and ugly lol!
