This show seemed to jump from scene to scene. The show started with small talk with a couple of teenagers cleaning the pool. A lot of body language was used such as arm shrugs and pointing. The facial expression was serious. The next scene showed a housekeeper leaving the house her expression was tires. Teenager went to room looked angry as he was making his life plan. Teenager moves earphones away from ear as opens the door some small talk around the table.
This show is about a dysfunctional family. The teenager had a one night stand with a murder and takes responsibility for his baby when the murder was executed. It was really hard to see that it was about a family until you got into it. They all looked about same age except mamma that was considerately older.
The communication that I saw would have been easier if I knew the characters that were in the story or the story theme. I would probably make better observations if it was a show that I was familiar with.
This was somewhat challenging activity. I have a hard time watching silent shows and then my family wanted to turn the volume on.
Wow! sounded confusing. I watch tv all the time with the sound off espicially when I am doing my school work, but there is a huge difference in knowing the characters and not being familiar with the show. I often can figure out the show just by their reactions and knowing the plot of former episodes. This was a really neat assignemnt as it gave me an elightment to the communication we pass off nonverbally.
ReplyDeleteHi Luci! I agree that this was a challenging activity. I too do not like watching TV with the sound off, and I also found it hard to focus on a show where I did not "know" the characters. I sort of found it hard to follow, and try to figure out what the show was about.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your entry!
Hi Luci,
ReplyDeleteI think it is especially hard to maintain interest in a show when you don't have the volume on and you don't have a "connection" with the characters. In other words, if I were watching a show that I watched regularly and have already formed an opinion about the characters based on knowing the history and story line of the show I think I would be much more interested in trying to watch it with the sound down. I, too, had a hard time staying with the program I watched.
Hi Lucinda,
ReplyDeleteI find it very hard to watch any show without volume. Let alone a show or even a movie without volume. What we do as a nation if TV did not have sound. Eeryone would be in an uproar.
Lucinda,
ReplyDeleteHi, I agree with Suzanne it is difficult to watch television shows without being able to hear what the characters are saying. It's impossible to feel a part of the story. II found it frustrating. I felt disconnected to the show, versus connected. I found myself having to concentrate more, yet I too lost interest pretty quickly.
I enjoyed your post!!
